On the De Gaulle movie, I supervised the team. At Benuts, we managed 130 shots. Here’s a selection of a few shots that don’t fit into the other categories.
For a sequence in Algeria, one of the buildings didn’t fit the period, so it was hidden behind a huge green screen. We recreated the building in multiple shots and added more crowds in compositing.
One particularly challenging shot involved split screens. To fix an inconsistency between two shots in a cut, we had to offset the characters in a moving-camera shot. We deformed and tracked the character, then created shadows to place them in different positions. This is a perfect example of invisible VFX.
On this movie, we started using AI for some cleanup. It helped a lot, especially with the fur and the chain. This kind of cleanup would be very challenging without AI.
